After another impressive showing at Saturday’s Foley Invitational, this winter is shaping up to be a special one for the Detroit Lakes jazz team.

The Lakers took first place in the Jazz Contest among the 10 competing teams. They had the highest score in head coach Britton Ramsey’s 12 years with the program with 336 points out of a possible 500. Alexandria took second place, while Crosby-Ironton took third place.

In high kick, Detroit Lakes took fifth place. Alexandria took first place, followed by Crosby-Ironton, Holdingford and Albany.

The last time the Detroit Lakes Dance went to the state was in 2010. Last season, the Lakers finished sixth in the Section 4AA Championships. Of the five teams that finished better than Detroit Lakes, only two remain in the 4AA field. Rocori is aiming to return to the state tournament, while Detroit Lakes are hoping to claim one of three qualifying spots.
